Why did a link open a new tab with a strip at the top?

It's a working tab, so you can check someone without losing your place. Links with a little ↗ arrow, on the People builder, the merge page and elsewhere, open that person's card in a new tab – a real, working version of your tree, so you can look around and make changes there too. The strip at the top says where you came from: press Done – take me back to close the tab, or the round × to hide the strip. For example, say you're merging Grandad George and want to see if his dad already has a daughter of that name – the link opens his dad's card, and Done takes you back. If your browser won't close the tab, use its tab button – your first tab is still open.

Where to find it

  • Settings (bottom row of the top bar, far right) → People builder

Only people with the "Add people" tick.

On a phone: if the Settings tabs are tucked away, press ☰ Menu (top left) first.
