Press the golden + on the child's card, choose the step-parent and mark them as step. A step relationship you record stays even if the couple later split up, because family is who we choose too. For example, your niece Kate's step-dad Jo stays her step-dad on the tree even after he and her mum go their separate ways.

On any card → the golden + (opens "Add a connection to Dave")
Only people with the "Add people" tick.
