The short version.
My Whole Family Tree is a private, invite-only home for your family's tree, pictures and messages. You must be 16 or over to have a login or to own a tree. Be kind, only add family you know, and don't put private details about living relatives on the tree without their say-so. We look after the system; we can't check every fact your family types in.
1. Who we are.
My Whole Family Tree is run by Premier Selection Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14539350), registered office 13 Holmes Drive, Ketton, Stamford, Lincs., PE9 3YB. Contact: support@mywholefamilytree.com.
2. Who can use it.
- You must be 16 or over to have a login.
- You must also be 16 or over to start and own a tree.
- Children under 16 can appear on a tree as a card that their family looks after. They can't have their own login.
- If a login was made by someone under 16 who gave a different date of birth, we'll close the login kindly; their card stays on the family's tree.
3. Your login is yours.
Keep your password to yourself. Anything done or posted from your login counts as done by you — including if you let someone else use it, a child included. If we're told someone under 16 is using a login, we'll sign that login out and ask its owner to reset the password — the tree stays exactly as it is.
4. Private and invite-only.
Trees aren't public and aren't shown to search engines. The tree's owner decides who is invited and what each person can do. Every tree, free or paid, can invite as many family members as it likes, up to 6 invites a day for each person.
Copying for your family is fine.
Anyone on a tree may copy what's shared there — people, stories and pictures — for their own family use, including starting a tree of their own with it. Please ask the person who added a picture before you make it public or use it for anything else, such as posting it openly online or selling it.
5. What you post stays yours.
You keep ownership of your pictures, words and recordings. You give us permission only to store, copy (for backups), resize and show them to the people your tree allows. We don't sell them and we don't use them to train AI.
6. Family facts.
Family history comes from memories, records and guesswork. We don't check the names, dates or relationships people add, so please check anything important for yourself. This doesn't affect our responsibility to run the service with reasonable care and skill.
7. What's not allowed.
Anything unlawful, threatening or abusive; sexual content; intimate pictures of anyone without their consent (real or faked); copying someone else's work without permission; sensitive details (health, religion, ethnicity, sexuality and similar) about a living person without their say-so; scraping, reselling, renting or offering the service to others. Full rules: the Family Content page.
Real names stand.
Family trees hold real people, and some genuine names, old or new and in any language, can look or sound rude today. They're real people's names, so we never change or block them.
No bad language.
Swearing, slurs and offensive words aren't allowed anywhere on My Whole Family Tree — in labels, posts, messages, captions or anything else you write. If someone keeps using offensive words, they're warned once by being signed out. If it carries on, their login is removed.
8. Free and paid plans.
Trees are free up to 200 people, always. Bigger trees use a yearly paid plan. Details, trials and cancelling: the Subscriptions page.
Under 18?
Please ask a parent or guardian before you buy.
Premium skins.
A premium skin unlock lasts for as long as the payment for it stands. If a payment is reversed or returned, the unlock ends. We may update or retire individual skin designs from time to time – your unlock always covers every premium skin we offer.
9. Leaving.
- Delete my login removes your sign-in. Your card stays on family trees, because it's part of other people's family history.
- Take me off this tree turns your card into "Private [surname]": your details are cleared and locked, and the family lines stay so the tree isn't broken. This can't be undone.
- A tree's owner can download the tree, or pass it to another adult on the tree.
- If a tree's owner has gone quiet, someone on the tree can ask to look after it. We email the owner and give them time to say no; if they don't, that person becomes the owner. Nothing in the tree changes.
- A trusted person. An owner can name someone they trust to look after the tree if they're ever away. On a paid tree, after 90 days without the owner signing in, anyone on the tree can ask to look after it: everyone sees a 30-day countdown, and the owner can stop it at any time. If the tree's membership has ended, the countdown starts straight away and lasts 14 days. If the owner's trusted person asks, it happens straight away — the owner agreed when they named them.
- Downloading. The tree's owner can always download the whole tree — paid, free, or after a paid membership has ended — right up until anything is deleted. If a paid tree's membership ends, everyone else on it can download their own part.
- When trees are deleted. A free tree that nobody signs in to for 90 days is deleted — we email at 60 days and again at 80 days first. If a paid membership ends, the owner and the 199 people closest to them stay open on the free plan; the rest of the tree is kept safely for 12 months so renewing can bring it back. 30-day warning email – to come
- If someone has died. A relative can tell us and ask us to close that person's login. Their card stays on the family's tree.
10. If things go wrong.
We may pause or close a login that breaks these rules, telling you why unless the law or someone's safety stops us. You can report anything with Report this. If we close a login or a paid tree because these rules were broken, there's no refund; if we close one for any other reason, or ever stop running the site, we'll refund the part you haven't used.
11. Our responsibility.
Nothing here limits our responsibility for death or injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law doesn't let us limit. Money limit – to come
12. Changes to these terms.
If we change them we'll email you and ask you to tick "I've read the updated Terms" next time you sign in.
13. Law.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protections of your own country's consumer law and can go to your local courts.
14. If we move.
If My Whole Family Tree moves to another company, this agreement and your family's information move with it, and the same promises carry on. We'll tell you before it happens.
15. If part of these terms doesn't stand.
If a court decides any part of these terms can't be used, the rest still applies.
