Merging turns two records of the same person into one, and nothing's lost on the way. Here's where to start. On your tree twice? Merge the two into one – the same goes for a child on there twice. On the merge page you choose which name is kept and which details are kept, and the two tabs show everyone the merge affects. If the two records don't agree, there's help for different mothers, a child who isn't really theirs, a wife with a similar name, one record that says they've died and the gold 'May be the same person' box. Merging someone from the People builder or a GEDCOM file? If you're sure, Quick merge does it in one go; if not, the merge page asks about each of their relatives, shows ✓ Adding this and Nothing new, and afterwards you can add their family, already joined. You can stop partway any time, and if a merge goes wrong, one undo puts it back. Want to join two whole trees? That's merging two family trees. For example, say Grandad George is on there as George and as Georgie – start with the first link.
